This is an important piece of legislation. Preventive care is a critical piece that is missing from health care. I have known people without health care coverage who didn’t go to the doctor – not just for regular checkups but when they were sick. I have heard of people who go to emergency rooms, feigning more serious illnesses just to get treatment for the less serious ones, and that depletes emergency room resources that might otherwise be benefitted by people who really are seriously sick or injured. This new vehicle for the poor and/or unemployed will be a big help. This is particularly important now, since the number of people who are out of work has increased exponentially over the past 18 months to 2 years. I’m glad we have this.
