[ SOURCE ] A new Texas non-profit plans to extend scholarship support to those they say are undersupported in higher education: white men.
The group, called the Former Majority Association for Equality, was formed by Texas State University student Colby Bohannan and others and hopes to provide four $500 scholarships to white men by July (donations are being accepted via the group's website).
The group's mission statement says that it wants to "provide monetary aid to those that have found the scholarship application process difficult because they do not fit into certain categories or any ethnic group."
Bohannan told Reuters that the group's goal "is actually just to help students."
"We are not trying to jump on any political agenda or bandwagon," he said.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, Bohannan is in fact in the minority in Texas, where non-Hispanic whites compose less than half the populace.
Bohannan told the Statesman that he felt "excluded" when applying for college scholarships, many of which target minorities.

WooHoo! 'bout time!
well, it's a private group, and as long as they don't get any government money, oh well. If I ran a private company and gave money to a particular group, that would be my prerogative. Of course, every group feels they are underserved. We all have to look out for ourselves and our own kind.
I love it. It is about time that someone shows that white males have been descriminated against for 46 years. Hell I had a hard time getting into college because I was a white male in 1967. Had an impossible time getting promoted once I found a job, because I was a white male. Forced out of my job early becasue - yes - I was a white male. Talk to me about slavery and having my pocket book picked because of my being a white male.
We are Lower than whale shi* in this country and yet carry the load.
I'm a 39 years old black male and I completely understand why they felt it necessary to provide scholarships. Many minorities don't realize that there are minoriites even within the white race. Every white person was not born with a silver spoon in their mouth and a huge trust fund. The sad part about this whole situation is that something like this is even necessary to begin with in the richest country in history!! So kudos to Mr. Bohannon.
I graduated Phi Theta Kappa (straight A's while going full time including summer semesters) with an Associate degree from community college while working, hoping that I could find a scholarship to a University.
The only scholarship offer I got was a tiny offer of $500 to go to a private, non-accredited college that would have cost me over $30,000 as I remember.
Instead, I had to join the work force.
I can't help thinking that if I was anything but this universally hated white, I would now have a Bachelor's degree.
