Movie Review: Battle Los Angeles

Now some of you may be wondering why I am reviewing a sci fi movie on an African American news blog. Well the answer is I love sci fi movies and how often is it that you have a major sci fi movie release that introduces three black characters early on and all three survive to see the end of the movie. Not only that but also a movie in which Michelle Rodriguez doesn't die in the last 15 minutes. ( See Resident Evil, Avatar ).

Now I read many negative reviews of the movie online and in my opinion the reviewers just don't get it.

Battle Los Angeles is Black Hawk Down meets Independence Day without Independence Day's crappy ripped off War of the Worlds ending.

It's a slam bang action movie that doesn't try to be much else. On that note it's excellent. If you are expecting hi tech mumbo jumbo and an extensive storyline then don't go see this movie.

If you want to see marines kick some alien ass then this is the movie for you. If you want to actually cheer in a movie theater again this is the movie for you.

If you are worried about the physics involved in how the alien ships fly or whether or not they can breathe in our atmosphere then stay home and read an Isaac Asimov novel. This is not the movie for you.

The only criticisms I have of the movie is that it's 15 minutes too long and truth be told it's a 116 minute US Marine Corp commercial. But if you ask me if it's a great sci fi action movie I would have to say yes.
