Now that the dust is settling from the budget battle we are now starting to see what was and what was not cut from the remainder of the 2011 federal budget.
President Obama has made the education of our children and affordable higher education priorities in his administartion. At times this may be hard to tell with the understandable focus on the economy and two wars going on. Three depending on what you call a war.
But President Obama put his money where his mouth is and made sure that Pell Grants and Head Start Programs were untouched in this round of budget cuts.
On the White House Blog Dan Pfeiffer the White House Communications Director wrote
We protected funding for critical programs that invest in science programs, our kids’ education, and critical health programs. We are maintaining current levels of Head Start enrollment, funding Race to the Top, including an early learning element, and have sufficient savings available to maintain the Pell Grant maximum award and the broad education reform agenda, including K-12 education.
The good news for those recieving Pell Grants is that the maximum amount you can get will stay at $5550.
Kudos to President Obama for understanding that education is a top priority and that our children need us to give them the best education possible as they head out into a golbal economy.

Pres Obama is head & shoulders above any opponent. But also needs support of Congress. We've got to be aware of what our Congressmen & women are doing, too!
