Why is the Black Community so intolerant of gay people? By GeorgeL Cook III AAreports.com
In the interest of full disclosure I must start of by saying that I am not gay. I have some friends and relatives that are. Some are nice people some are ***holes but they are all human beings first. On the real I have more important sh** to worry about than whether are not someone is gay.
I am writing this in light of Tracy Morgan's recent comments at a comedy show in which he said that if his son were gay, he would "pull out a knife and stab" him.
The reaction by most has been one of shock and outrage in the online community.
But in the African American online community the reaction has been different. While you probably would expect more people to stand up for Tracy Morgan there has been a very negative tone towards the gay community itself.
From Newsone.com there were readers comments like the two below:
1. " I am truly tired of the gay advocacy groups attacking any and everything individuals say that they do not agree with. You don't want me to force my views on you; stop trying to force your views on me. I may not agree with your lifestyle but I am not God so therefore I am not the one judging you. I have my own faults to answer for. You live your life and stop trying to force me to accept yours. "
2. " what is the deal with this overly sensitive "faggot community?' its like they go around scrutinizing whatever people say, in order to justify their cause... hell, if i can't say whatever i feel like because its going to offend a "complex demography." i really don't give a damn, because the last i checked, the 1st amendment was still in place... thus my boy doesn't owe anyone an apology. "
From Bvnnewswire.com:
1. "MR. MORGAN GOT IN TROUBLE FOR TELLING THE TRUTH, I AGREE WITH HIM 150%"
2. "Yeah He told the truth, but it seems that people don't want the truth anymore. Jesus said it would be this way in the last days. Morgan should have stuck to his guns. And not back off I'm sure its his publicist told him it would hurt his career.
"
Now I posted the more negative comments but even the more positive are neutral commenters seemed to have not much of a problem with what Tracy Morgan said. It was taken as a comedian making jokes.
Which would be fine but a few years ago when Michael Ricahrds went on a rant using the word nigger no one seemed to be defending a comedians right to touch whatever subject they choose. Many in the the black online community wanted Richard's head
One would think that we as African Americans who know how it feels to be discriminated against would be more tolerant of others. But it seems that we are much more intolerant of the gay community. I wonder why that is. What do you think?

Michael Richards statement is COMPLETELY different from Tracy Morgans. Richards was talking TO black people calling them the N word b/cuz they heckled him. Tracy Morgan made a joke about HIS son. Being Black is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than being gay. Blacks are hated because of our skin & hair & lips & hips & genitalia (which is crazy b/cuz white girls PAYS to get what we have naturally). Being gay is a CHOICE to have sex in a manner that goes against nature so comparing the two is like comparing apples to lettuce.
Mr. Cook (LOL) believes all who are hesitant to embrace gays are homophobic. I say, we DO embrace gays. We have far fewer incidents of violence against gays in our communities. (Look it up). We are VERY tolerant, but, we also have a deep history of struggles and will not be lumped in with gays as some sort of laughable minority group. We were persecuted. We lost 150 million folks in 200 years. Dead. We still (black men) have 52% unemployment. Mr. cook, post better articles....
Wherein this article did the man compare blacks to gays?
And furthermore why do black people always say being a gay is a choice? How do you know? Were you gay at one time but woke up one morning and decided you were tired of it?
Only a person who is gay can tell you if it's a choice or not. So that must mean theres' a lot of formerly gay black folks out there.
I find that fascinating. Because if it's true what's up with the hate?
G Eorge Cook did and my cooments are aimed squarely at him and people of his ilk. Also, a mother of 4 who later becomes gay has made a choice idiot....
You folks really need to listen to people and stop reading case studies. sure some gay folks may be BORN gay, but most ARE NOT. MOST discover the lifestyle far later in life. Do some fucking research!
@Richard: You sure know a lot about when gay folks "turn" gay. Did it ever occur to you that they were repressing their real desires cause they were surrounded by freaks like yourself who were telling them what they felt?
Food for thought Doofus.
Richard I never compared being black to being gay. You did. At least make an argument based on what was actually in the article.
I don't think that being gay is a choice, however telling people you are gay is a choice, which is how and why it differs from being black. You don't have to tell someone you are black, they can see that. However if you don't tell someone you are gay, while they can assume you are, it's still just an assumption.
I CHOSE to be gay when I was 18. It was what I really wanted. The gay people who came in the neighborhood hangout in which I worked, seemed more creative and intelligent than the other people there. Of course, it was SC, so there were a lot of rednecks. My point is: Even though I made a choice to be gay, I was not born that way, and I couldn't even kiss a girl. For a week, I told everyone that I was gay, but after that, I gave up, because even though I wanted to be gay, I just wasn't.
Yea gay people try to force it on u. A gay man kept saying try it ,u might like it ,i said i don't play that s#%t. So he kept trying to talk to me. i told him if he said any thing esle to me I would kill him , than i got in trouble with the law ,which is stupid. I don't like gays, women don't act over the top as gay men do. Keeep it to yourself and u will be ok. KIDS don't need to learn this stuff . Plus tv /media the world try to make us wrong. I would kill my son if he was g#@. BIBLE , JESUS killed all the GAYS. GENESIS.
Reading these comments makes me realize why so msny people dislike black people. Why are blacks so easy to throw the bible into every mix when it comes to something they're not interested in? But when it comes to things like going to red lobster or eating the shrimp scampi at Golden Coral they are the first in line? Does anyone say anything about people eating in buffets in the first place, cause last time i checked gluttony was a sin as well. Also, black people are the first to suggest if a man or woman isn't making any money in a marriage that they need to divorce him/her and move on to the next; which is a sin because adultery and death is the only reason for divorce. Once divorced the person is considered living in adultery. Nobody says anything about masturbation, considering black porn is a huge industry. Also I'm tired of people calling being gay a "lifestyle" or "choice"....if that was the case everyone wuld be attracted to the same sex and have a desire to have a relationship or sleep with them; because in order for something to be a choice it has to be something that you've been thinking about intensely and if you are thinking about loving the same sex, then you have some self-evaluating to do.
