Judge Approves Historic Settlement For Black Farmers

Tens of thousands of American farmers who suffered racial discrimination by the U.S. Agriculture Department in the 1980s and '90s may start getting compensation from a $1.25 billion settlement, a federal judge has ruled.

"I'm very pleased that this has resolved itself," U.S. District judge Paul Friedman said Friday. "It will provide relief to an awful lot of people."

In an opinion filed in the case, Friedman deemed fair a proposed settlement that provides a system of compensation for black farmers who joined a class-action lawsuit claiming that they can prove racial bias in decisions related to Agriculture Department programs and support.
"Historical discrimination cannot be undone," Friedman wrote, citing a basis to establish payments "for the broken promise to those African-American farmers and their descendants."

As many as 68,000 African-American farmers who filed between 1999 and 2008 would apply for one of two forms of relief: "Track A" for a qualified claimant would lead to an uncontested payout of $50,000 after taxes, and "Track B" could yield up to $250,000 for damages that are substantiated by documents and other evidence.

Obama's initiatives for student loan relief

President Obama has proposed two initiatives to help those strapped with college loan debt.

One of Obama's proposals would advance the start date for a special loan repayment program based on income that aims to help struggling graduates.

The way the Income-Based Repayment Plan works now is that graduates who enroll get charged 15% of their monthly discretionary income to pay off loans, with debt forgiven after 25 years.
Congress passed a law set to go into effect in 2014 that would drop the monthly payment for loans originated that year to 10% of discretionary income and would forgive all debt after 20 years.

The administration would improve on the law by fast-forwarding the new terms to take effect in 2012 on loans originated that year, White House domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes noted Tuesday.

So far, about 450,000 students are enrolled in the income-based repayment plan, but hundreds of thousands more are eligible.

The other proposal would encourage graduates with two or more kinds of federal loans to consolidate their loans, giving them a small interest rate break of 0.5% [ SOURCE ]

Walmart donating 5 million to National Museum of African American History & Culture

Oct. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Walmart has donated $5 million to the Smithsonian Institution to support the construction of the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington, D.C.

Walmart's support of the NMAAHC is a part of the company's continued commitment to advance causes that promote diversity and inclusion. The NMAAHC was established in 2003 by Congress, making it the 19th Smithsonian Institution museum. It will be the only national museum devoted exclusively to the documentation of African-American life, art, history and culture.

"We know the rich history that will soon be on display at the museum is something important to preserve, study and experience," said Sharon Orlopp, global chief diversity officer at Walmart. "We share the Smithsonian Institution's passion to promote and honor diversity and the contributions that African Americans have made to our country and culture."

As a founding donor, Walmart is helping to facilitate the construction of the more than 300,000-square-foot museum. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2012 with a grand opening slated for the fall of 2015. Until then, NMAAHC is presenting touring exhibitions in major cities across the country and in its own gallery at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. The museum will be built at a cost of $500 million on a five-acre site adjacent to the Washington Monument on the National Mall.

"We are grateful to Walmart for its commitment to help educate people – all people – to the unique role African Americans played in our nation's growth and history," said Lonnie G. Bunch III, founding director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. "Having Walmart join us early in the development of this museum helps bolster our fundraising efforts and ensures we can establish this historic resource for all Americans."

In addition to the company's commitment to the NMAAHC, in 2010 the Walmart Foundation gave more than $3 million to African-American focused organizations and institutions of higher learning.

Serial rapist targeting sorority sisters of Delta Sigma Theta

Police in the Dallas area are hunting a suspected serial rapist who appears to be targeting alumnae members of one sorority ( Delta Sigma Theta ), and each of the victims told investigators the assailant seemed to have personal knowledge about them.

Four alumnae of the same sorority — black women in their mid-50s to early 60s — were raped in their Dallas-area homes over the last 11 months, apparently all by the same assailant, according to an alert sent out by the Plano, Texas, Police Department.

The most recent of the attacks occurred around 9:15 p.m. Friday in Corinth, police said.
The police statement did not identify the sorority, but the Dallas Morning News reported that it was Delta Sigma Theta, and that the sorority had sent out email alerts to alumnae.

The suspect, who is seen in a surveillance video released by the Plano police, is described as a black man, estimated to be in his late 30s to mid-40s, 5 feet seven inches to 6 feet tall and 250 to 300 pounds. He has a trimmed beard and short hair, and possibly a receding hairline, police said.

Each of the four attacks happened between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. According to the Morning News the alerts also advised that police have requested a full list of each chapter’s members.

Pres. Obama has written personal checks to those in need

President Obama receives thousands of letter a year from US citizens. Many are in need and President Obama has admitted to in some cases writing personal checks to help people out. Check out what he told the Washington Post’s Eli Saslow who is writing a book on the letters the president receives.

[ SOURCE ] A few times during his presidency, Obama admitted, he had written a personal check or made a phone call on the writer’s behalf, believing that it was his only way to ensure a fast result,” Saslow wrote in the Post.

“It’s not something I should advertise, but it has happened,” the president told Saslow. “Some of these letters you read and you say, ‘Gosh, I really want to help this person, and I may not have the tools to help them right now. And then you start thinking about the fact that for every one person that wrote describing their story, there might be another hundred thousand going through the same thing. So there are times when I’m reading the letters and I feel pained that I can’t do more, faster, to make a difference in their lives.”

New Hampshire republican wants Pres. Obama charged with treason

Harry Accornero
Here's another one from the you can't make this sh** up file. Harry Accornero a New Hamshire state legislator wants President Obama charged with treason for his handling of the illegal immigration issue. Read an email he sent members of the state congress below:

October, 14 2011

Open letter to all Members of Congress,

I am formally asking you to bring a commission of treason against Mr. Barack Husain Obama.

We have a President who allows our borders to be violated by illegals of any country while we are at war. He allows them work permits, access to our services and when apprehended by law enforcement refuses to have them jailed or deported. Barack Husain Obama has crossed the line, and under Article III section 3 of our Constitution is guilty of treason by giving aid and comfort to the enemy and attempting to over throw our government from within. Now is the time for members of Congress to finally do your Constitutional duty and hold Barack Husain Obama accountable for his crimes against America. Mr. Obama is a fraudulent president who is selling out America. Its time Mr. Obama is called accountable for his treasonous actions. I can only hope our members of Congress have the intestinal fortitude to do what needs to be done. It is time to make up your mind "Do you stand with this fraud and treasons president of with the American people and our Constitution which you swore to protect and defend"?

Thank you,
Harry Accornero Representative, Laconia, NH

52 year old boxer Dewey Bozella wins pro boxing debut!

[ SOURCE ] Dewey Bozella landed a hard right cross on his opponent's jaw at the final bell, and the 52-year-old boxer raised his arms in victory.

After 26 years behind bars for a murder he didn't commit, Bozella triumphantly realized a dream deferred in his first and only professional fight.

Bozella won his pro boxing debut Saturday night, beating Larry Hopkins by unanimous decision in the latest stunning chapter of a remarkable life.

Bozella didn't have a younger man's hand speed, but he moved with a confident ease and showed strong technique in the ring, constantly moving his head and outmaneuvering Larry Hopkins. Both cruiserweights absorbed big shots in the first two rounds, but Bozella was never hurt beyond a welt near his left eye.

Bozella dominated the fourth round, even finishing the final seconds in style. After Hopkins spit his mouthpiece into the air and flailed at it with his boxing gloves, Bozella decked him with a right cross at the bell, leaving Hopkins woozy on the ropes.

With his family and friends gathered around him in the ring, Bozella raised his gloves in victory when the judges favored him 39-36, 38-37 and 38-36.

"I used to lay in my cell and dream about this happening," Bozella said. "It was all worth it. It was my dream come true."

"This was my first and last fight," said Bozella, who lives in Newburgh, N.Y. "It's a young man's game. I did what I wanted to do, and I'm happy. I appreciate everybody that made this possible. This has been one of the greatest experiences of my life."

Comedian Chris Tucker faces foreclosure on mansion

[ SOURCE ] Court records show comedian Chris Tucker is facing foreclosure on his multimillion-dollar mansion in central Florida.

Records show SunTrust Bank filed papers against the California resident with Lake County courts earlier this week.

According to documents, Tucker bought the 10,000-square-foot (3,050-meter) lakefront home for $6 million in 2007 — before the housing market crashed. The bank claims he still owes more than $4.4 million, but the county property appraiser has the home currently assessed at $1.6 million.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the house is located in the Bella Collina development, a 1,900-acre (770-hectare) community overlooking lakes and a championship golf course.

Calls placed by The Associated Press to Tucker's Hollywood representatives seeking comment were not returned as of late Thursday night.

Tucker is best known for staring alongside Jackie Chan in three "Rush Hour" films. Other credits include "Friday," ''Money Talks" and "The Fifth Element."

Wouldn't it be funny if Cain won the GOP nomination? What would the GOP do?

George L. Cook III
Now I write this knowing that unless Mitt Romney gets caught naked in bed with a farm animal that he will probably win the GOP nomination.

Being the sick bastard that I am I have this sick twisted part of me that would actually see Herman Cain win the GOP nomination. It would be great to see republicans being put in the position of having no choice but to vote for the "black guy".

This would just make my day.

I mean normally even if republicans don't like their candidate they hold their noses go in the both and vote for him or her.

Look at McCain he was no GOP darling but he still got roughly 60 million votes and Sarah Palin was almost a heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

The question is would they vote like that for Cain?

I mean it's cute and all during the primary season and it's gives republicans the chance to say, "Hey, look we have a black guy too!" But what happens if Cain wins the GOP nomination. It wouldn't be so cute anymore.

Now him winning would of course to lead to the best funded third party candidate in US History but listening to the bogus explanations for that third party candidate would be hilarious.

Well that's just my deep dark twisted family and if you are a regular reader of my blog and you are honest it's yours too.

Harry Belafonte Calls Herman Cain a ‘Bad Apple’

Harry Belafonte, the singer and activist who once marched with Martin Luther King Jr., called black GOP candidate Herman Cain a “bad apple” who did not represent the African-American community.

In a clip to air Friday on CNN, Belafonte told Joy Behar that Cain, a wealthy businessman who grew up in poverty, was not an “authority on the plight of people of color.”

“[Cain] doesn’t believe that racism holds anyone back, in any way now,” Behar told Belafonte. “What do you think about that statement?”

“It’s very hard to comment on somebody who is so denied intelligence – and certainly who is denied a view of history, such as he reveals. He knows very little. Because he happened to have good fortune, because he happened to have had a moment when he broke through – the moment someone blinked – does not make him the authority on the plight of people of color,” the singer said.

Is it just me or does Chris Christie look like....

Ever since republicans have been courting NJ Governor Chris Christie to run for president in 2012 I just couldn't help thinking that I knew the big guy from somewhere in my past. Then while drowning my sorrows in a six pack of beer while watching my NY Giants lose to Seattle I had an epiphany. I did know Christie from one of my favorite childhood cartoons See which one below.

Herman Cain: Wall St. protesters playing victim card

[ SOURCE ] Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain on Sunday accused anti-Wall Street protesters of playing the "victim card" - and suggested that those participating in protests nationwide against corporate greed and a lack of jobs are merely doing so out of "jealousy."

Cain, in an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," argued that the recent protests against the financial sector were "anti-American," and that they were meant to be "a distraction" from the Obama administration's "failed policies."

Cain also posited that the protesters were being "encouraged to get together" by "unions and certain union-related organizations."

"It's coordinated to create a distraction so people won't focus on the failed policies of this administration," he told host Bob Schieffer.

Eleven years ago, when the NAACP stepped up a campaign to remove the Confederate battle flag from statehouses and other government buildings across the South, it found an opponent in Rick Perry.

Texas had a pair of bronze plaques with symbols of the Confederacy displayed in its state Supreme Court building. Perry, then lieutenant governor, said they should stay put, arguing that Texans "should never forget our history."

It's a position Perry has taken consistently when the legacy of the Civil War has been raised, as have officials in many of the other former Confederate states. But while defense of Confederate symbols and Southern institutions can still be good politics below the Mason-Dixon line, the subject can appear in a different light when officials seek national office.

Warren Ballentine Addresses Critical Community Needs with a Cup of Joe

Warren Ballentine
POPULAR TALK SHOW HOST AND ATTORNEY, WARREN BALLENTINE, CONTINUES TO LAUNCH INITIATIVES THAT DELIVER ECONOMIC AND CHARITABLE IMPACT

Ballentine Addresses Critical Community Needs with a Cup of Joe

Atlanta, GA (October 6, 2011) – Warren Ballentine, popular syndicated radio personality and attorney affectionately known as “The #1 Truthfighter” is once again galvanizing his listeners andencouraging thousands to actively help support and elevate communities across America. Ballentine announced today a new initiative challenging 30,000 people to buy coffee for $30 every month. The proceeds from the coffee will benefit distressed communities and help individuals who need it most. Every month the earnings from the coffee will go directly into the communities to financially assist in everything from saving homes in jeopardy of foreclosure, to funding college tuitions to helping small and community businesses stay afloat. Ballentine adds, “That cup of coffee that many of us are going to buy every day…any way, can now go to support the critical needs ofour community.

”In true Ballentine fashion, the charitable cause does not come without pre-requisites. Certaincriteria must be met in order for potential recipients to qualify. To be considered individuals must:1) Register to vote (if they are legally eligible) 2) Open a bank account in a community-based bank3) Hire people in the community which the recipient resides or does business in; even if the job applicant has a prior legal record and 4) Provide a business plan and/or proof of the amount owed(for example a mortgage statement; tuition bill, etc).

The goal is to offer some immediate relief to people in need in our communities, while also focusingon longer-term solutions that stimulate economic growth and promote healthy communities that are engaged financially and socially. Ballentine, who has always been extremely vocal about thestate of the African-American community, continues to emphasize the dire need to work togetherand learn to invest in the community and become more economically sufficient. “This is an initiative aimed at trying to put hope and opportunity back into our communities. We can’t simply dream ourway out of the current conditions. The only way we can do it is by working together and by havingaccess to capital,” explains Ballentine.

Ballentine remains committed to helping the most vulnerable populations in neighborhoods acrossthe country and shares that he will help roughly 5 communities every 30 days. Most recently Ballentine partnered with the National Banking Association (NBA), in a national campaign to get more minorities and other consumers in urban areas to put their money in black-owned banks. In less than 3 months, Ballentine encouraged minorities to invest more than $1 million dollars into community, minority-owned banks. He continues to be an activist and is as influential on the airwaves as in the community. “It’s about we…it’s not about me.”

Hank Williams Jr. is a dumb bastard but shouldn't lose his job.

Hank Williams
Now I know what I am writing is not going to be popular but I believe everyone should chill out asking for Hank Williams Jr. to be fired by ESPN. Yes he is a dumb bastard for comparing President Obama to Hitler but let's see all of you answer questions at 6:30 in the morning after a night of heavy drinking.

I mean haven't you ever got pissy tail drunk and then went on national television and said some dumb sh**? Okay maybe not but here in the US you have the right to do so.

There are several petitions circulating right now asking ESPN to let him go and I understand the anger. Mr Williams disrespected the office of the President of the United States and in doing so disrespected our country. But our constitution allows ***holes to be ***holes and have fun doing it.

Many including myself are angry with Williams and if ESPN decides that they don't want him associated with their corporate image then they should fire him. But it should be a decision they make.

Remember today it's a bastard like Williams but next time it could be your free speech being attacked. I don't really care that much about Williams but I do care about our individual rights. As Americans we have the right to say whatever dumb sh** we want and trust me we exercise that right.

That be said most of us know a little better than Williams and would never say what he said. That's because we have good old fashioned common sense

Let's use that common sense now.

ESPN removes Hank Williams from MNF for comparing Pres. Obama to Hitler

The Hank Williams Jr. song that has opened Monday Night Football for 20 years will not be part of the opening of this week's Indianapolis-Tampa Bay game after Williams made controversial comments about President Barack Obama. Williams compared Obama to Adolf Hitler on Fox News. ESPN, in a statement, said: "While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

Why haven't white GOP candidates spoken out on Perry's "Niggerhead" issue?

Rick Perry
By now you have heard about the name of a hunting ground that Rick Perry's family once leased and used. It was called "Niggerhead". Yes I spelled it out. We are all grown here and don't to dance around the word nigger.

Am I the only one not surprised that a story about racism has popped up in Perry's past?

But anyway Rick Perry has come out with some story about the rock being painted and turned over to hide the offensive slur. But he also pointed out and not surprisingly so that it was brought to his attention by a friend. That means he had seen the rock before and had no problem with the place being called Niggerhead until it was pointed out to him .I'm sure it was explained to him in a long conversation using very small words why it was bad. Still not quite understanding why it was bad he or his father had the rock painted over.

The only GOP candidate that seems to have an issue with this is...surprise, the black guy.

“My reaction is, that’s just very insensitive,” Cain told Fox. “There isn’t a more vile, negative word than the N-word, and for him to leave it there as long as he did, before I hear that they finally painted over it, is just plain insensitive to a lot of black people in this country.”

Mr. Cain was honest but made two mistakes here.

First he did something conservatives never do. He admitted there was racism and two he spoke up for black people.

Well Mr. Cain you just lost yourself the GOP nomination but thanks for stepping up.

I am wondering why haven't the other GOP candidates spoken up about this. I'm sure that Bachmann and Gingrich had no idea that nigger was a derogatory term and Ron Paul has forgotten that it was but that doesn't excuse the others.

Romney, Huntsman, and Johnson we are waiting......

'Bev Smith Show' leaving airwaves

Bev Smith, the only nationally syndicated black female talk show host on radio, will no longer be on the air as of Oct. 28 -- and not just gone from Pittsburgh's WGBN-AM, but absent from 30 other AM radio markets across the country, including New York, Philadelphia and Chicago.

Contrary to rumors of ill health, Ms. Smith says she isn't leaving of her own accord. Rather, she was told several weeks ago that "The Bev Smith Show" would no longer be offered to radio stations by American Urban Radio Networks, a Pittsburgh-based media company that produces news, entertainment, sports and information programming for urban radio audiences.
