I want to explain to everyone what the book is about so I came up with the bright idea of interviewing myself. So without wasting anymore time let's get to this great interview of me interviewing me.
AAReports: Can you give us a brief synopsis of the book?
George Cook: in the book the dead walk the earth. Mankind has begun to fight back and the Dead War rages on. This is the first chapter in the story of that war. One lone scout must fight his way through Newark NJ and deliver an important message to the US Army HQ. It begins as one man alone and ends with a battle at The NJ Devils Arena, The Rock current home of the sorry a** NJ Nets. That unnecessary dig is because the Nets are moving to Brooklyn.
AAreports: How would you best describe the story?
George Cook: It's like if Dawn of the Dead, Blackhawk Down, and Aliens had a baby. Lot's of action and high-tech weaponry. Oh yeah it's scary too.
AAreports: Who is the hero of the book?
George Cook: The hero is Sgt. Richardson an African American man / soldier from Newark NJ who was a cop before The Dead War.
AAreports: Why set the book in Newark?
George Cook: Why not. Newark is the biggest city in NJ and I am from NJ. Besides it gave me a chance to write about a battle inside the prudential center which is something that I think about when watching a boring ass Net's game there. That's a nice arena and in the story it gets shot up pretty good.
AAreports: Why set the story in the near future instead of the present?
George Cook: it gave me chance to play around with the weapons and come up with something a little more high tech. But high tech doesn't always equal better when fighting oncoming hordes of the dead. Sheer numbers can be a real bi***.
AAreports: There are a few twist and surprises in the book when it comes to choices characters make or have made. Why put those into a horror / adventure story?
George Cook: While I wanted the book to be a a quick exciting read filled with actions and a few scares I wanted to make people think. I wanted people to stop and think what would they have done if in a similar situation. I want people to wonder whether we have to loose our humanity to fight the un-human.
AAreports: That's deep.
George Cook: I'm a deep guy.
AAreports: What formats can readers buy the book in?
George Cook: It's only available as a Kindle Book now.
AAreports: Why is that?
George Cook: Because I don't feel like putting up with a fu***** publisher right now and it cost too damn much to self publish.
But seriously the Kindle and e-books in general are a tremendous opportunity for all independent authors to not only make money but to have complete control over their books. African American authors especially need to take advantage of the ease with which one can publish a book for the Kindle.
AAreports: Is there a website for the book?
George Cook: Now that you mention it there is: http://thedeadwarseries.blogspot.com/
AAreports: Thank you for your time Mr. Cook we know how busy you are.
George Cook: Thank you. Great interview.
AAreports: It was wasn't it.
